During this time, he earned a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering Degree at the University of Maryland, College Park, and a commission as an officer in the Marines. While on one of his most recent deployments, Garret was inspired to help others find meaning in their lives through writing and sharing his reflections about life, happiness, success and contribution. His passion for writing led to the publication of his first award-winning book, Charity The Gifts of Giving. The Spheres Approach to Happiness and Life Fulfillment marks Garret’s fourth published book, with many yet to come.
Garret has had the great fortune to be mentored by the international best-selling author and visionary, Gary Keller (author of The One Thing and co-founder of Keller Williams). He has also been trained and supported

This organization was aptly named for Garret’s personal goal to help p rovide water to one million men, women and children in need.
In addition to being a published author, philanthropist and professional speaker, Garret has a Master of Real Estate Development degree from Auburn University. While considering his future in real estate development, Garret began reflecting on the differing cultures he had experienced in his travels with the Marines. Garret wanted to understand how past events and innovations have led to where we are as an American society regarding living conditions and societal standards, and to assess how that would affect an American society of the future. The result is a book entitled Understanding the New America Dream: The Challenges and Benefits of New Urbanism, which expresses his reflections and makes predictions about the future of America based on trends of today. While pursuing his degree, Garret received prestigious recognition as a Charles Grossman Scholarship recipient by the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) Foundation.
In 2015, Garret retired from the Marine Corps as a Captain; he currently lives in New Bern, North Carolina where he spends time writing, reflecting and speaking to audiences of any size about living a more positive, abundant and fulfilling life—creating A Life Unchained.
